The admission part of your budget
Amboseli park fees.
Know your category.
Amboseli National Park entry costs USD 90 per non-resident adult under the KWS tariff checked on 27 October 2026. East African citizens, Kenya residents and citizens of other African countries have separate rates. Use the table below before comparing a lodge rate with a complete safari quote.

Entry fees per person.
These are the published Amboseli conservation fees, not accommodation or transport prices. KWS lists Amboseli and Lake Nakuru together as premium parks. Each visitor uses the category supported by their documentation; a group need not all use the same category.
| Visitor category | Adult | Child / qualifying student |
|---|---|---|
| East African citizen | KES 1,500 | KES 750 |
| Kenya resident | KES 2,025 | KES 1,050 |
| Non-resident | USD 90 | USD 45 |
| African citizen outside East Africa | USD 50 | USD 25 |

Vehicle charges are additional.
The tariff lists KES 600 per day for a vehicle with fewer than six seats, and KES 1,500 for six to twelve seats. These are per vehicle, separate from per-person entry. Ask the operator which vehicle category applies; two passengers in a larger safari vehicle do not make it a two-seat vehicle.
A worked admission example: two non-resident adults entering once cost USD 180 in person fees. A vehicle in the six-to-twelve-seat band adds KES 1,500. Keep the currencies separate; this is not a complete safari price and excludes accommodation, vehicle hire, guiding and meals.
Bring evidence for the right rate.
Citizenship and residence
The tariff defines East African citizens by membership of the East African Community. Its African-citizen category covers nationals of other African countries outside East Africa. Kenya-resident rates require the relevant valid residence documentation; living elsewhere in East Africa or holding a visitor entry document does not by itself establish Kenya residency.
Give your operator the nationality and residence category of each traveller when requesting a quote. Have the supporting identification ready for admission. KWS decides the applicable category.
Children and students
The PDF defines a child as five to below eighteen, but also lists children aged five and younger as exempt. Those statements overlap at age five: confirm that exact age with KWS before budgeting or paying. Children below five fall within the published exemption.
A student rate is not automatic for every young adult with a student card. The tariff defines students as no older than 23, from a recognised secondary school, college or university, visiting for educational purposes through a documented organised institutional arrangement.
The tariff also lists conservation-fee exemptions for Kenyan citizens aged 70 and above and persons with disability, together with defined registered tourism workers. Confirm eligibility and required evidence directly with KWS; an exemption from person fees does not automatically remove vehicle or activity charges.
A daily fee is single access.
KWS defines the daily fee as payment for a single access lasting no more than 24 hours. Do not interpret this as unlimited exits and re-entry throughout that period. Ask for your arrival, overnight stay, departure and any repeated gate crossings to be priced against the actual admission plan.
This matters for accommodation outside the boundary. Leaving for lunch and returning for an afternoon drive may affect admission costs. An inside-park stay also needs the full elapsed stay and exit arrangement checked; a two-night booking does not itself specify the required admissions.
Conservancy charges, camping, special activities and national park entry are different items. The tariff contains multi-park packages, but eligibility and validity must be confirmed for the precise route before treating one as a saving. Read our safari cost guide for the whole budget.
Use the official KWS payment route.
The current KWS Amboseli page links its “Pay for Park Entry” button to KWS eCitizen. Start from the official park page or its Amboseli entry service. Check the park, date, guest category and vehicle before completing payment, and keep the confirmation available offline.
If your operator handles admission, obtain written confirmation of exactly what is included. Do not pay the same fee independently without checking that arrangement. This independent planning website does not collect government park payments.
Plan arrival around KWS’s published 06:00–18:00 gate window and confirm overnight arrangements separately. Our Getting There guide explains the road approaches.
Fee questions, answered.
Are Amboseli entry fees seasonal?
The reviewed KWS tariff lists one set of Amboseli rates by visitor category. It does not show separate high- and low-season Amboseli admission tables. Lodge and safari package seasons are separate.
Does a lodge booking include park entry?
Only if the written inclusions say so. Confirm person fees, vehicle fees, covered entries and any conservancy charges separately.
Can I use one ticket for two game drives?
Confirm the access pattern with KWS. The daily fee is defined as single access for no more than 24 hours; it is not a blanket multiple-entry ticket.
Budget the whole journey.
Share your dates, party ages and visitor categories so your safari quote includes the right admission allowance.
