A little more time in the wild

A journey shaped around the wildlife.

Three nights in one base, with time to follow elephant behaviour and changing light.

Photographers and wildlife enthusiasts seeking longer sightings and fewer lodge changes. The itinerary below sets out each travel day, included wildlife activity and overnight stop. All departures begin in Nairobi and return to Nairobi.

Choose budget, midrange or luxury accommodation while retaining the described route and included activities. Your written quote identifies the actual properties, rooms and final price for your dates. Wildlife encounters and clear Kilimanjaro views depend on natural conditions.

Your journey, day by day

Your Amboseli journey, day by day.

Day01

Nairobi → Amboseli

Nairobi to the elephant plains

Your driver-guide collects you in Nairobi and follows the southern road to Amboseli, with a comfort stop along the way. The journey crosses changing farmland and dry country before the mountain landscape opens out near the park. Allow a substantial morning for the transfer; the chosen lodge determines the approach gate. Arrive for lunch and settle into your room before the afternoon drive.

Enter Amboseli and explore the grasslands and wetland margins on permitted tracks. Your guide watches for elephant families feeding and moving towards water, with zebra, wildebeest and gazelles on the plains. Buffalo and waterbirds add interest around the marshes, while giraffe favour the woodland edges. Pause for photographs of Kilimanjaro when cloud clears, then return to your accommodation for dinner before park closure.

Day02

Amboseli National Park

Elephants, wetlands and open plains

Leave after breakfast for a full day among Amboseli’s grasslands, acacia edges and permanent wetlands. Follow elephant movements between feeding areas and water, stopping to watch herd behaviour rather than rushing between sightings. Zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and gazelles are regular subjects; your guide also scans open ground and shaded cover for lion, spotted hyena and cheetah. Predator encounters depend on the animals’ movements.

Continue around the marsh margins for waterbirds and hippos in deeper pools. At Observation Hill, take the designated walking trail for a wide view over the basin and enjoy your packed lunch at a permitted picnic site. The afternoon drive returns through productive habitats as light changes across the plains. Your guide keeps the route within open tracks and park hours, returning to the same accommodation for dinner.

Work patiently with light, background and animal behaviour, allowing longer stops for elephant interactions and wider landscape compositions. Your private vehicle provides room to organise camera bags and change lenses. This is a photography-focused driving itinerary; a specialist photographic tutor, off-road access and commercial filming permissions are not included.

Day03

Amboseli National Park

Changing light and a second day of photography

Return to the park after breakfast for a second complete photography day. Revisit the elephant and wetland areas that proved productive yesterday, then explore another permitted circuit as animal movements and light develop. Your guide positions the vehicle for an uncluttered view while respecting wildlife space, using longer stops for feeding behaviour, family interactions and birds around the marsh edges.

After a packed lunch at an authorised picnic area, alternate wider landscape compositions with closer wildlife studies. Dust, cloud and afternoon light can change familiar scenes, so this additional day creates opportunities to return to a subject rather than treating the drive as a checklist. Plains animals and woodland birds provide variety between elephant sightings. Return to the same lodge for dinner. Camera equipment, a specialist tutor, off-road permissions and commercial shoot permits are outside the package.

Day04

Amboseli → Nairobi

A final Amboseli drive and the journey home

Begin with a final morning game drive through the habitats closest to your lodge. Cooler conditions create another opportunity for elephant activity and, when skies clear, photographs of Kilimanjaro. Your guide follows current wildlife movements, allowing time for birds, antelope and any predators encountered without delaying the return journey.

After breakfast and check-out, leave Amboseli and travel back to Nairobi with a comfort stop en route. The road transfer occupies much of the day once park access, traffic and the final hotel or airport approach are included. Your safari ends at the agreed Nairobi drop-off. An onward flight needs a generous buffer confirmed in the written itinerary.
