How much does an
Amboseli safari cost?

The useful price is the total for your dates and group, with accommodation, transport and admission clearly identified. A room-only rate, a flying package and a private road safari buy different things. Start with the journey you want, then compare the same inclusions.

A three-day road safari example.

Our maintained 3-Day Amboseli Safari from Nairobi gives the following researched quote-start estimates. They are planning estimates, not supplier-confirmed tariffs or guaranteed availability. The basis is two non-resident adults sharing one double or twin room and one private 4×4 for the complete three-day, two-night land package.

*Use the package’s exact displayed travel windows. Travel from 23 December 2026 onward requires a fresh quote. These examples are not 2027 prices. Actual property, room, availability and final total must be confirmed in writing.

For two adults, the November budget example is USD 2,160 for the pair, rather than USD 1,080 for the vehicle or room. A solo traveller, a family or a larger party needs a new calculation. Package comfort labels are editorial selection categories, not official hotel star grades.

The package page is the maintained source for current estimate windows and itinerary inclusions. If a date expires or the page changes, request a fresh quote instead of treating this illustration as an offer. Compare the complete safari collection for other durations and routes.

What makes up the price?

Accommodation and meals

Check nights, room occupancy, meal plan and any single-room or child conditions. A per-room price must be divided by the actual sharing guests before comparing it with a per-person package.

Vehicle and guide

Establish whether transport is private or shared, the vehicle type, covered route and game drives. A daily vehicle allowance is not necessarily an unlimited-mileage transfer price.

Entry and activities

Separate national park person fees, vehicle fees, conservancy charges and optional experiences. Match admission allowances to the planned entries and exit, not simply the hotel-night count.

The official KWS non-resident adult admission is USD 90 under the tariff checked on the review date. Two such adults therefore need USD 180 in person fees for one access, before vehicle charges. KWS defines a daily fee as single access for no more than 24 hours. See the full fee table and validity explanation.

Domestic flights add another comparison: check baggage, airport transfer, airstrip transfer and whether game drives use a shared lodge vehicle. A flight ticket by itself does not provide the full safari on arrival. International flights, immigration arrangements, personal spending and insurance should be checked separately in every quote.

A lodge rate is not
a complete road safari.

Ol Tukai’s published 2026 catalogue illustrates why the pricing unit matters. Its full-board double-room tariff lists USD 380, 580 and 650 under the lodge’s own seasonal bands. Those amounts are per room, not per person. For two sharing adults the room-and-board arithmetic is USD 190, 290 or 325 each per night, before any separately charged items.

The same catalogue lists scheduled two-night flying packages at USD 1,040, 1,150 and 1,285 per person, excluding park fees. Those are a different product and basis. Do not add a private road vehicle to a flying-package price and assume the result matches a road itinerary, or combine prices from different seasonal bands.

These operator-published examples explain price structure; they are not a reservation or confirmation of room availability. Read the operator’s catalogue for its exact seasons and terms, then ask for a dated written quote. Our lodge directory identifies the published starting-price basis on each released profile.

Compare quotes on one page.

  1. Match dates and travellers.Use identical nights, adult and child ages, nationality and residence categories.
  2. Match the price unit.Record currency, per-person or per-room basis, and the total payable by the whole party.
  3. Match the journey.Include Nairobi pickup, road or flight travel, exact lodge, game drives and final drop-off.
  4. Count admission properly.Identify the entries, elapsed park stay, vehicle charges and any separate conservancy access.
  5. Read exclusions and conditions.Check taxes, supplements, optional activities, drinks, cancellation rules and payment dates.
  6. Confirm before committing.A quote request does not reserve rooms. Obtain the final itinerary, availability and full price in writing.

If your budget is tight, compare fewer transfers, a room category with the meal plan you need, or sharing a private vehicle among more travellers. Do not assume a cheaper room outside the park always yields a cheaper total: access and the admission pattern can change that calculation.

Common cost questions.

Is the quoted price for two people?

Check the unit. The package examples here are per person sharing based on two adults. Multiply by two for that pair; other group sizes need a new quote.

Does a lower-season lodge price reduce park fees?

Not automatically. The reviewed KWS tariff sets admission by visitor category without a separate seasonal Amboseli table. Accommodation seasons are defined by each property.

How can I avoid paying for too little safari time?

Compare actual arrival, included drives and departure rather than the number of calendar days in the title. Read our stay-length guide before choosing a short itinerary.

Ask for a complete total.

Send travel dates, group ages, visitor categories, room preferences and starting point for a quote you can compare.
